Becoming Primal
What does it mean to YOU to be PRIMAL?
The definition of primal is “early evolutionary or beginning of humanity.” But it also means “essential.”
Our ancestors, a few generations ago, lived a simple life. They worked hard for every thing they had. Nothing was wasted. Everything they had served a purpose. Your great grandfather hunted, fished, and maybe even foraged for fresh berries to provide for his family. He went to work long hours and performed manual labor to make sure his family was taken care of. Go back even farther in time, humans had to work even harder than they do now. Grocery stores didn’t exist. Making a trip to Menards to purchase pre-cut lumber for your new deck wasn’t an option.
The humans before the internet were intuitive. They fought tooth and nail to live a simple life. They weren’t dependent on anybody. This made them primal. The primal humans were smart and physically active. They ate whole foods from nature or the farm. They walked long distances searching for food or playing outside. Manual labor was a must. The house and family required work, not laziness. Our ancestors also did not worry about small things like we do today. Their worries were having food, water, and shelter to last them through winter.
Today, mental health disorders are on the rise. Over 20% of the country is struggling with anxiety or depression. Many are addicted to social media and always wondering how many likes they will get on status updates. When their post does not get enough likes, this individual starts to get sad and compare themselves to “influencers.” They scroll social media all day wasting time. Procrastinating the daily duties of life. Most humans today go to work, sit all day, come home, and continue to sit. They spend hours watching Netflix and binge eating fast food or processed junk. Becoming weak and fat.
That is exact what has becomes of Americans. America has become one of the weakest countries in the last 50 years. Obesity rate is over 45% (165 million) and over 70% overweight ( 230 million). Less than 23% (75 million) meet the government Physical Activity Guidelines for aerobic and muscle strengthening activity. This minimal guideline recommends 150 minutes of moderate activity or 75 minutes of intense activity. Only 5% of Americans (15 million) possessed hunting licensure in 2020. Meaning that America is developing into a fat, weak, and lazy country that no longer knows how to work or provide for itself.
The few Americans who do care about health are doing their best to help others change. This change must come from each individual. It is a conscious decision to be better. Only the individual can make this choice. The choice of being average and succumbing to a consumer society. Or the choice of being fit and successful. Creating and thriving, only consuming what is needed.
